There are several communication channels that provide relatable, factual and sourced updates on the current Auroville crisis. We present some of these on this page.
It is worth noting that these updates are created by three different sources: Evolving Galaxy, Stand For Auroville Unity, and Auroville Media Liaison. All three are managed by residents of Auroville. The first two are independant media channels whose authors act anonymously in order to be protected. Auroville Media Liaison is of a more official nature, as it is under the supervision of the bonafide Working Committee of the Residents' Assembly, the residents' elected representatives.
Auroville is based on the evolutionary vision of Indian philosopher and seer Sri Aurobindo, and was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa, also known as the Mother. Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.

Auroville is complex by nature, and the current conflict is a multi-layered one. Auroville Media Liaison, the official communication channel of the Residents' Assembly, created a webpage that summarizes the current situation and all that is currently under threat. You can check it out by clicking here.
Auroville functions under a unique legal framework, enacted by the Indian Parliament: the Auroville Foundation Act (1988). The Act recognises the decision-making role of the Residents’ Assembly (which currently consists of about 2500 adults). The Residents’ Assembly and government-appointed Governing Board (represented in Auroville by the Secretary to the Governing Board) are meant to work in harmony together while being interdependent. The Act aims to ensure that there is a balance of power and responsibilities between them. You can read more on the structure of the Auroville Foundation here.
However, for the past two years, the Secretary to the Governing Board has overridden residents’ concerns and opportunities for collaboration. Instead, the Governing Board is now forging ahead with its selective interpretation of Auroville, imposing in a top-down authoritarian way censorship, livelihood threats and rapid urban development that is not collaboratively planned or ecologically sensitive. You can read more on the current conflict here.
